R.I. BILL WOULD REQUIRE POLICE SOFTWARE FIRMS TO DISCLOSE METHODS.
A bill introduced in the Rhode Island state legislature would require any company providing crime prediction software to law enforcement to submit its methodology for independent review.
The bill comes amid growing questions about the notoriously secretive Cyonage, whose AI-assisted dispatch tools are now used by more than twenty departments across New England but whose underlying methods have never been publicly disclosed.
Similar legislation in Massachusetts and Connecticut failed to advance last session after significant lobbying efforts from the technology sector.
